REFLECTIONS
ON THE WONG LOONG
REUNION FROM AN ORANG PUTEH
(Article by Andrew Geddes aka Nedrick)
Look at all the people in this room! What an interesting collection of
shapes and sizes! And ages. And dress sense and fashion and costumes!!
Such a variety of forms and appearances! Yet there's something familiar
about all of them. What on earth is it? It's not their looks yet they're
all descendants from the same man stock. They do look quite different (yet
there are some family groups who do share the same looks). It's something
else. What is it? I can't quite put my finger on it just yet.
This family reunion makes me reflect on my own dispersed family. Five
generations of Australians from the mid 1800s: generations before that in
Scotland and Ireland; generations before that in Norway, all the way back
to one of the ancient 12 Norse tribes...The Geds, so named after the
ferocious fresh water pike! A fish with a lot of teeth and a jutting lower
jaw!! I
know the history but I doubt you'd get a gathering of 600 of them together
like this Wong Loong family reunion! They're all too busy with so called
"modern" life with its fetish for work and material possessions.
Ah! That's the difference! This group of humans share a unique energy by
making the time to come together for a whole afternoon to celebrate their
family roots. All eager to meet cousin Becky or April or etc. From all
around the world. And the elders dressed in their traditional Borneo
costumes with striking "sigars" (an embroided hat) dancing their
sumazau (a
kadazan dance) or joget (malay dance).
Fantastic! Don't ever let it go, descendants of Wong Loong. Some things in
life are worth making the time for, that's for sure. And thank you for
sharing your energy with me.....possibly a distant relative now that
they've discovered Viking ruins in China!! You never know, my great (to
the power of 100) aunt may have met Wong Loong's great (to the power of
100) uncle.
Cheers!
